Group / Playdate: Movie in the Park

Movie in the Park:

Charge up that portable dvd player or laptop and take it to the park with a picnic blanket. Invite some of your toddler friends and parents for a movie at the park. Ask each toddler to bring their blankets and maybe an evening snack. Once everyone is at the park, have the kids all sit/lie down on the blanket and watch the short movie.

You might even borrow an exercise video from the library and have some fun following the directions. Maybe even try some yoga!

Toddlers have very short attention spans. They are always on the move. If you ask them if they’d like to have a picnic they will invariably get excited and readily agree to eat outside on a blanket. However within a minute or two of watching any movie they will be up and about exploring. This is exactly what they should be doing.

Yes to the picnic. Save movies for older children.

What a sweet idea. I have a hugely active 2 year old who loves to run around but he will always sit to watch the short film “Lost and Found” based on the book by Oliver Jeffers – and I will always come and sit to watch it too, it’s our favourite! I think this combined with a picnic and a run around would be a really lovely afternoon break.
